What should I expect on my first visit?
Consultation:
The most important question for your doctor to answer is whether or not you are a candidate for care in his or her office. The Doctors at Physio Logic are interested in trying to completely understand your health condition. We will ask you questions related to how your condition started, what makes your symptoms better or worse, the severity of your symptoms, how long you’ve had them and other related aspects of your health conditions.
Physical Examination:
A physical examination will follow your consultation. After ruling out conditions that require an immediate medical referral, your doctor will perform an evaluation of your neuromusculoskeletal system (a long word for nerves, muscles, and bones). This may or may not lead to a prescription for diagnostic testing, such as an MRI or X-Ray.
Report of Findings:
Upon completion of the physical examination an assessment of your condition will be given to you in what is known as the “Report of Findings” (R.O.F.). During the R.O.F. your doctor will discuss your diagnosis and treatment plan.
What is as a joint manipulation/chiropractic adjustment?
The chiropractic adjustment is performed when the doctor uses their hands to impart a short, quick gentle thrust to areas of restricted motion in a spinal or extremity joint. This adjustment releases deep scar tissue and adhesions helping to relax the surrounding muscles. By restoring normal motion and biomechanics, the adjustment reduces pain and spasm, increases range of motion, and improves coordination and performance.
Do I need to bring a change of clothes?
Wear comfortable clothing that allows you to move freely. Don’t worry if you forget, we have shorts and tee shirts to borrow.
Do you treat other conditions than those mentioned on your website?
Yes, we treat a wide variety of neuromuscular/musculoskeletal conditions. Those on the website are just an example of some commonly treated diagnoses.
What should I expect during my Physical Therapy visit?

Do I use heat or ice after an injury?
This is a common question, and a very important one. After an injury like a twisted ankle, pulled hamstring or lower back sprain, the inflammatory stage begins and lasts for 24-72 hours. During this time ice is preferred. Typically ice is applied for 10-20 minutes. This cycle is repeated as often as necessary. If you don’t have an ice pack, a bag of frozen peas or corn will do. P.R.I.C.E. a common acronym used after an injury, suggests patients Protect, Rest, Ice, Compress, and Evaluate their injury.
Heat is typically applied to an injured muscle or joint after the inflammatory phase is over. Moist heat is preferred over dry heat, because dry heat (such as a heating pad) may dehydrate your muscles making them less flexible and predisposing them to further injury. Moist heat applications may last up to 20-30 minutes.

Why Does My Back Ache?
Back pain can be caused by every day things like carrying the kids on your shoulders, cleaning the floors, lifting groceries our of the car, or even lugging around a little extra weight up front (that’s the pendulous abdominal syndrome). It may also be a result of a lifting, bending and twisting, or worse yet, sitting all day at work. Add all of this to a slip and fall or a previous car accident and it’s not difficult to understand why studies show that approximately 80% of Americans will suffer from lower back pain at some time in their life. Many times back pain begins after just bending over to pick up a pencil. Now, it’s not the pencil causing your back pain, but rather your lower back’s structure (meaning the muscles, joints, discs, and vertebrae) has lost its normal functioning,
How can I help pinched nerves & disc herniations?
The most common cause for a true “pinched nerve” is a disc herniation. A herniated disc is sometimes, although not accurately called a slipped disc, and is the most common cause of severe back pain and sciatica. A disc becomes herniated when the jelly doughnut-like inside ruptures out to the point that it “pinches” the nerve. Physio Logic is successful at treating this condition with numerous conservative treatment options, which will be discussed with you after a diagnosis has been made.
Do I have Arthritis?
Arthritis is a general term meaning “joint inflammation”. The most common type of arthritis is osteoarthritis (OA). There are several causes for OA, such as a trauma as a child or young, adult, postural imbalance, repetitive stress, and heavy manual labor to name a few. Physio Logic is successful at treating this condition with numerous conservative treatment options.
What is Sciatica?
Sciatica is a condition in which lower back pain is accompanied by leg pain. The sciatic nerve is one of the largest nerves in the body, and is comprised of several individual nerves (L4-S3) that originate from the lower back. The sciatic nerve can become irritated or inflamed by lower back joint dysfunction, disc herniation/bulge, or direct pressure on the nerve itself from a muscle (i.e. piriformis). Physio Logic will find the cause of your sciatica and discuss with you numerous conservative treatment options.
What if I am pregnant?
Pregnancy is extremely hard on the lower back as well as on the neck and shoulders. Examine the spine of an expectant mother from the side and it’s easy to understand why they’re in pain. Due to the increased development of the breast tissue, the shoulders are rounded forward, placing tremendous pressure on the neck and shoulders. The weight of growing child places the lower back in a strenuous position.
The nine months of pregnancy bring many hormonal changes that relax the ligaments stabilizing the lower back and pelvis. As the pelvis rotates down in the front, the muscles of the lower back become short and tight, causing an increase in pressure on the pain sensitive joints of the lower back, producing achy lower back pain. We can help make this special time in a woman’s life as enjoyable as it is meant to be.
How do overuse injuries occur?
Over-used muscles (and other soft tissues) change in three important ways:
~ acute conditions (pulls, tears, collisions, etc),
~accumulation of small tears (micro-trauma)
~ not getting enough oxygen (hypoxia).
Each of these factors can cause your body to produce tough, dense scar tissue in the affected area. This scar tissue binds up and ties down tissues that need to move freely. As scar tissue builds up muscles become shorter and weaker, tension on tendonitis, and nerves can become trapped. This can cause reduced range of motion, loss of strength, and pain. If a nerve is trapped you may also feel tingling, numbness, and weakness.
What can I do to eliminate headaches?
Almost all people experience a headache at some time in their lives. One study estimates that over 50 million people in the US suffer from headaches! Although most headaches do not indicate serious illness, they are a major cause of suffering and missed work, and rank as one of the most common reasons people consult a doctor. The International Headache Society has actually classified 129 different types of headaches! The most common headaches come from the muscles (muscle tension), joints (from the neck, called cervico-genic), blood vessels, (migraines), or systemic conditions (such as fevers or low blood sugar). Physio Logic has had considerable success in relieving the cause of headache pain. If you suffer from headaches, you owe it to yourself and your family to have them evaluated for their cause. The only thing you have to lose is your pain!
•Where can I get a massage, the way they are performed at Physio Logic?
Many clients are extremely content with the Massage Therapy Protocol here at Physio Logic and make comments such as, “This is exactly what I needed,” or “I’ve never had that type of massage,” or “What do you call this type of massage?” And to most of them must be explained that Massage is individual to the practitioner, but we do specialize in a medical-grade Massage with attention to specific muscle groups, and thoroughly work out the kinks. If you would like to book private Full Body massage sessions, please contact our front desk.
•What should I wear for my massage?
If you are coming in for a visit to the chiropractor, and Massage is part of your therapy, we encourage you to wear separates, i.e. shirt and pants, as opposed to a dress. We do minor draping for these brief massages and it is best if you can just remove the article of clothing in the area of main complaint. So if you have neck pain, we may ask you to remove your shirt/blouse, and if you have hip pain, we may just work through the clothing using compression techniques or you may bring a pair of shorts to change into. For Full Body Massage sessions, there is no dress code requirement, unless you are having Shiatsu or Traditional Thai Bodywork, then comfortable workout or yoga clothes with socks is recommended.
