Spinal manipulation involves the application of a controlled force to the joints of the spine with the intent of reducing pain and muscle hypertonicity and increasing joint range of motion. It can be performed manually with the hands or using special instruments. It has been shown to be very effective in treating neck and low back pain, herniated discs, pinched nerves and osteoarthritis. Studies have also shown manipulation and mobilization techniques to be extremely safe as compared to other physical medicine interventions.
