Graston Technique® is an innovative, patented form of instrument-assisted soft tissue mobilization that enables clinicians to effectively break down scar tissue and fascial restrictions. The technique utilizes specially designed instruments made of stainless steel, to detect and effectively treat areas exhibiting soft tissue fibrosis or chronic inflammation.
Originally developed by athletes, the Graston Technique® is an interdisciplinary treatment used by more than 32,000 clinicians worldwide — including physical and occupational therapists, hand therapists, chiropractors, and athletic trainers.
According to the foundation of Graston Technique® therapy, GT has become standard protocol in many universities and hospital-based outpatient facilities as well as industrial on-site treatment settings.
What to expect
The first visit is an hour long and like an interview, involves the patient answering questions pertaining to their individual body.
The treatment area will typically bruise as the stainless steel instrument is used in long strokes while applying pressure. Patients typically experience an almost instant sensation of pain relief and relaxation post-treatment.
Graston Technique® allows our Chiropractors at Physio Logic to get as deep into the tissue as necessary to invoke change, yet be sensitive to the patient’s pain and tolerance. As the instruments are moved over the affected area and come in contact with the adhesions, they help break up scar tissue and fascial restrictions.
