Why Medication Isn’t the Only Answer

When you’re struggling with severe joint pain, things such as pain medication are just a quick fix. They have shown no results of helping to stop the progressive joint damage from getting worse in the future. NSAIDs (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs) are common drugs used to

treat joint pain, but the side effects may outweigh the benefits for joint pain. They do reduce pain and inflammation temporarily. NSAIDs can also cause edema, which is swelling caused by a build-up of swelling in the body’s tissues. These drugs may cause edema in a variety of ways, but the one that researchers have studied the most is kidney damage that can result from the use of such medications.

There are other pharmaceuticals offered to those with joint pain. Such as steroid / cortisone shots injected straight to the problem joint. There isn’t a lot of positive research to back the benefits of cortisone shots and they can be extremely costly. Patients given steroid injections into the joint have been found to have no pain relief and only faster cartilage breakdown over time. The shots have only been effective for some patients and they only provided temporary pain relief. If the shots caused no side effects, then there wouldn’t be a reason not to try them. That, however, is not the case.

Acupuncture for Back Pain

Acupuncture is the use of fine, sterile needles, which are inserted into specific areas of the body. It’s a natural way to relieve your body’s pain without the use of prescription drugs, steroids, or surgeries. Heal your body naturally and prevent chronic pain from increasing. Acupuncture relieves muscle spasms and relaxes the connective tissues.

Acupuncture works to activate your body’s natural healing powers. It increases nerve conduction, releases endorphins (your body’s natural painkiller), strengthens your immune system, and increases blood flow to the joints. If you’re suffering from back pain or any joint pain, acupuncture is a natural and holistic solution to relief.

There are many different types of acupuncture to treat pain throughout the body. This includes distal acupuncture, which is for the more difficult pain to treat and is very effective for the pain that has been resistant to other types of treatment. Distal acupuncture involves placing needles distal (or far away) from the site of discomfort. Distal acupuncture targets specific areas that send blood flow to those precise pain areas in your body. With those exact places targeted, you should be able to feel pain relief almost immediately.

The use of distal needling comes with two main benefits. First, the site of pain will not be touched. Second, patients often experience results almost immediately. Acupuncture does more than just treat pain. Acupuncture helps bring the body’s organ systems back into balance and reduce stress. So, a distal acupuncture treatment can be very efficient, comfortable, and very effective.
